A Change in Plan

The plan last night was to get up and go for a walk first thing in the morning. Our alarm goes off at 4:30, which would leave us enough time to get in a quick walk before my husband and I had to get ready for work. When I woke up this morning after another night of fitful sleep, that seemed like the dumbest plan ever conceived. My husband was already up, so I thought about how I could present my new plan as I walked downstairs and entered the family room.

It looked like I hadn't needed to worry about it too much. My husband was stretched out on the couch wrapped up in a warm, cozy throw. He didn't look all that anxious to go out into the cold, dark morning either.

"Hey, I was thinking," I started.

"That we're not going for a walk," he finished.

"Well, yeah, but you could meet Jack and me at Cavitt tonight, and we could walk then." My son had practice off-campus this afternoon, and with just a slight detour, it was on my husband's way home. The timing could be perfect for us to meet up and go for our walk there. I had already checked the weather app, and it looked like we wouldn't be rained on.

"What time?" he asked.

"Jack has practice from 3:30 to 5:30."

He paused as he thought about it for a moment.

"Yeah, that should work."

Phew. Tomorrow might be a different story, but at least for today I wasn't going to have to give up my morning coffee and Wordle!

  1. A 4:30 alarm sounds positively deadly. I used to be an early riser, but retirement has found me moving closer and closer to the 7 am alarm. I love that you figured out how to walk later. I had to check your location since a 4:30 walk would be out of the question for me. Maybe CA is more agreeable to that time of day.

  2. I'm so glad your husband agreed with you that it was too cold and dark to go for a walk at that ungodly hour. Hope your walk in the afternoon was pleasant — and did you guess the Wordle today?

  5. I love how you were able to finish one another's thoughts. Sounds like it was a good morning to stay warm inside the house indeed. Hope you were able to squeeze in the afternoon walk and that the weather was a little more pleasant by that time of the day.
